This princely state was established in the Dhood region.
In 1137 AD, the Kachhwaha dynasty was established by Dulherai by defeating the Meenas.
According to the Dhola Maru Ra Doha composed by the poet Kallol, Dulherai was originally a prince of Nakhar (in present-day Madhya Pradesh) and married Makhan, the daughter of Chauhan king Nalhans.
Dulherai initially made Dausa his capital.
Dulherai got the temple of Jamvayamata built near the present Ramgarh.
Dulherai also conquered the present Amer region for the main princely state of the Kachhwaha dynasty.
In 1207 AD, Amber was made the capital in place of Dausa by Kokil Dev of the same dynasty.
Kokil Dev defeated the Meenas and the Badgujars and expanded the empire to the Shekhawati region.
Pancham Dev became the great ruler of this dynasty.
Prithviraj Singh of Amer princely state fought a war against Babur on behalf of Rana Sanga in the battle of Khanwa.
After Prithviraj Singh, Bhimdev became the ruler.
Bhimdev's brother Kunwar Sanga founded the city of Sanganer.
Bhimdev's brother Rao Bharmal killed Bhimdev in 1547 AD and declared himself the ruler.
Maharaja Bhimdev's sons Ratan Singh and Askaran went to the shelter of Hadi Khan, the Subedar of Nagaur.
When Hadi Khan attacked Amber, Rao Bharmal married his daughter Kisna Bai to Hadi Khan.
Rao Bharmal was the first Rajput ruler of Rajasthan who accepted the suzerainty of the Mughals by marrying his daughter Harka Bai (Jodha Bai) to the Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1562 AD.
Rao Bharmal got the Amer fort built in 1558 AD.
It was with the efforts of Rao Bharmal that Akbar organized the Nagaur court in 1570 AD.
After the death of Rao Bharmal in 1573 AD, Rao Bhagwan Das became the ruler of Amer.
Rao Bhagwan Das married his daughter Man Bai to Akbar's son, Prince Salim (Jahangir).
Bhagwan Das also contributed to the expansion of the Mughal Empire.
Man Singh became the ruler of Amer in 1589 AD.
Most of the palaces and temples were built in Amer fort during the period of Maharaja Man Singh.
Mansingh had built Jagat Shiromani Temple in Amber in the memory of his son Jag Singh.
Mansingh conquered East Bengal (Bangladesh) and established it in Amber by bringing the eight-armed statue of Sheela Devi from there.
Maharaja Man Singh was Akbar's best friend and famous Mughal general.

Man Singh's court poet Ram Murari Das had composed a book called Man Prakash.
After the death of Maharaja Mansingh, Mirza Raja Jai Singh became the ruler of Amer.

Mirza Raja Jai Singh served three Mughal emperors Jahangir, Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb.
Mirza Raja Jai Singh had built Jaigarh Fort and got the artillery built in Jaigarh Fort. In this artillery, during the time of Sawai Jai Singh, the biggest Jaiban cannon of the medieval period was built.

Sawai Jai Singh II was a scholar of astrology and constellations. A book on astrology named Jai Singh Karika was composed by him.
During the time of Sawai Jai Singh, astrologers together composed a book called Jeet Mohammadshahi.
Sawai Jai Singh had established Vaidya Shalas in Delhi, Jaipur, Mathura, Varanasi (Banaras) and Ujjain to study the constellations.
The first Vaidyashala is in Delhi and the largest Vaidyashala is in Jaipur (Jantar Mantar).
After the death of Aurangzeb, Sawai Jai Singh did not support Prince Moazzam in the war of succession between his sons, so Prince Muazzam won and became the Mughal emperor in the name of Bahadur Shah I, then he deposed Sawai Jai Singh from the throne of Amber. was declared Khalsa. (merged into the Mughal state) and the name of Amer was changed to Mominabad.
Sawai Jai Singh soon made an agreement with Bahadur Shah I and again became the ruler of Amber.
Sawai Jai Singh founded the city of Jaipur on 18 November 1727.
The architect of Jaipur city was Vidyadyar Bhattacharya.
In 1799, Sawai Pratap Singh got the Hawa Mahal built in Jaipur.
In 1868, Jaipur was painted by Maharaja Ram Singh.

In ancient times Amber was known as Ambavati, Amarpura, and Amargarh.
